April 4, 2012—Happy Easter!
When I was a little girl, I just loved it when spring came, bringing Easter with it. I have vivid memories of the “smell” of Easter. Those smells included the scent of fresh spring air with the windows cracked open because the warmer weather had arrived, mixed with the baking of homemade rolls and a tea ring, an Easter tradition at my house. Those warm, homemade rolls, fresh out of the oven, were just delicious, along with the tea ring, covered with nuts, cherries and white icing dribbling down its sides. What a perfect Easter breakfast!
After breakfast and church, we would come home and begin the egg hunt! That was glorious fun, but the highlight of the hunt was finding our Easter Baskets. Where on earth did that Easter Bunny put them? I’m telling you, it was quite the hunt! There were times when I thought I would just never find my basket again. But one year stands out especially well in my mind. After much searching, there it was! My Easter Basket was sitting behind the washing machine with the biggest chocolate bunny I had ever seen in my life, looking at me from above the handle! My eyes popped right out as a big smile encompassed my face. Oh boy, that looked so yummy.
Generally the rule was that I was only supposed to eat a little bit of candy at a time, stretching the delicious treats out and savoring them for several days to come. However, this chocolate bunny was so amazing, I just couldn’t contain myself. I ate him. All of him—and boy was that one yummy bunny!
A precious childhood memory of mine I immortalized into a song I affectionately named “The Chocolate Bunny.” Check it out on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTd6OcorB8Y Happy Easter!
