April 11, 2012—There is beauty in the world!
When I listen to the news each night there are many stories of sadness and despair. However, mixed among that news are the occasional stories of acts of heroism and kindness. I decided to make a mental note of the various beautiful and touching things I have encountered during the past couple of days. I wasn’t disappointed because beautiful and touching things are everywhere, if we take the time to notice.
One of the beautiful things I saw was right in my backyard. I have a row of flowering, yellow forsythia bushes and a marvelous pink cherry tree, all in blossom that can be seen from my kitchen window. When I looked out my window, there was the most gorgeous red cardinal bird sitting in the middle of the flowering pink tree, outlined by the yellow forsythia bushes behind it. It put a huge smile on my face–such a beautiful sight. Later in the morning I was singing a song called “Oh, What a Miracle!” to my preschoolers. One little boy was so inspired by the music that he made his way into the middle of the circle and began dancing as if he belonged on the show “Dancing With The Stars!” Everyone was very impressed, including myself. He was very happy and quite talented, expressing his joy through dance.
Beauty and happiness are all around us. It’s interesting how nature and children bring this to our attention so clearly. We adults should take notice! Let me know what beautiful things you see this coming week.
