April 25, 2012—Angels Watch Over
By now I’m sure you all know I love both children and animals very much. I work with them, live with them, write about them and am inspired by them every day. My friend and teacher, Cari Cole recently shared a story on her Facebook page from a headline of the San Francisco Chronicle. A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spiderweb of crab traps and line weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps, etc. A kind fisherman spotted her and radioed for an environmental group’s help. Soon a rescue team arrived and after several hours, managed to untangle her and set her free. The whale’s response to being freed was the best part. The divers say she swam in joyous circles and then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudging them and gently pushing them around as if to say “thank you.”
In the May/June 2012 issue of Angels On Earth Magazine I read an article entitled “Animal Angels—flippers, feathers and fur—disguises don’t surprise us.” A family’s precious new little poodle, Casey, had run away from home and no one could find him. Signs were put up everywhere and all the local vets and shelters had been called, hoping someone might have spotted Casey. Finally the call came in from a vet’s office saying they had Casey. When asked who found him, the family was told another dog, who was walking on a leash with his family, had suddenly pulled them toward a nearby house and was sniffing under a porch chair. There was Casey, lost and scared, hiding under the chair. As the article stated “When people failed to bring Casey home, God put a doggie detective on the job.”
On a personal note, my son was driving home from the grocery store very late on a rainy, foggy night. As he drove down the road he spotted something cowering in the middle of the street. He managed to stop his car just in time before hitting a little black dog, soaking wet from the rain. He gathered up the dog and brought him home where he could dry him off and inspect the collar on his neck. Sure enough, the collar had a tag on it with a phone number. He called the number and heard an elderly man answer the phone. My son said, “I believe I have your dog here at my house.” The elderly man responded with, “Oh my goodness! You have Bruce? I’ll be right over!” Within a couple of minutes the man arrived, hugging his dog in a joyous reunion. He then told my son that his wife had just passed away a couple of weeks before and all he had left in this world was his little dog. He figured the dog had dug his way out of the backyard in search of his wife. That little dog meant everything to that dear man.
In each of these instances, I believe angels were watching over these creatures. The fisherman, the divers, the dog with his family walking on the leash, and my son were there at just the right time. How could that be? I believe it’s because God sends angels to watch over all living things. Please listen to and enjoy my song: Angels Watch Over, Track 2 from my CD “Angels Are Out With You Today!”
