September 12, 2012—The Big E and a Book for Kids!
A few weeks ago I was praising the Cummington Fair– the best small country fair around. I went and had a blast. Now it’s time for The Eastern States Exposition—the 4th largest fair in the United States, otherwise called The Big E! It is an enormous event located on Memorial Drive in West Springfield, MA, and every state in New England is featured. It is a fabulous place to go. Here you can enjoy food, shows, amusement rides, animals, state buildings and start your holiday shopping. There are crafters galore and items to buy that you simply won’t find in regular stores. The Big E begins on September 14th and continues through September 30th. For 17 days there is fun for the entire family.
Everything about the fair is great, but my favorite part is the Avenue of States, featuring the individual state buildings of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Each state features their local products, from Maine lobsters to the CAPA Booth (Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association), in Connecticut. As visitors stroll through these buildings they learn about the sights, smells and events that make each state unique.
This year you will find me taking part in the CAPA booth in the Connecticut Building. This booth features authors from the State of Connecticut and the books they have written and published. Every day a different group of authors will be there, signing their new books as visitors purchase them. It’s not every day that you can find a group of authors, all sitting together, sharing their heart and stories with thousands of visitors. I will be there on the 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., signing our kid’s book, Rockrhydin. I’m excited!
Come on down to The Big E if you live close enough to do so, and stop by to say “Hi”. I’ll be happy to see you there!
