Living in New England offers distinct differences for each season of the year. That is what I love about living here. Each season delivers beauty in its own way, from the beauty of a white landscape, sparkling in the sun during winter, to the roaring brooks of spring with its sap buckets hanging on the maple trees, to the warm, dewy nights of summer, listening to the crickets and tree frogs at night and splashing in cool ponds to refresh us from a hot, steamy day. However, the crown jewel of all the seasons, in my opinion, is fall—beautiful, crisp, colorful fall. It is the highlight of the year for me. I enjoy the frost on the pumpkins, the smell of the leaves as I walk through the woods and the colors that surround me on every level. It is simply stunning.
A sunny fall day offers something for everyone to enjoy. I looked out my kitchen window and saw a deer lounging on the ground under a colorful tree, just taking in the scenery. This morning I opened my front door and discovered my large pumpkin had provided a wholesome supper for one of the woodland creatures during the night. My pumpkin had a large hole in its side and all of the seeds had been dragged out and eaten–a fine discovery for some lucky animal.
Family adventures call to you from every direction. What other season offers jumping in piles of leaves, picking apples from the local orchard while sampling a crisp, juicy bite, and standing outside when the wind picks up watching leaves raining down from the trees, swirling around you as they drift gently to the ground? The hills beckon us to hike through the woods, sharing in the beauty of nature with the animals as they scurry about, preparing for the upcoming winter.
Fall is lovely and peaceful—a happy ending to the year. Take a few minutes to enjoy the beauty it offers. It is a gift. Share it with your loved ones.
