Last Friday, December 14th, 2012, my heart broke, along with everyone else’s in the world upon hearing of the shooting at Sandy Brook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. As a teacher, a Mom and a resident of Connecticut, I wanted to reach out. I wanted to express my deep sadness and concern for every one of the victims and their families. However, I could not find the right words. I have come to the conclusion there are no words that can convey my deep sorrow and heavy heart. I want the people of Newtown to know I am thinking of you all. I am praying for you and my heart pours out to you.
A couple of months ago, on October 3, 2012, I wrote a blog about our song “A Ribbon of Stars.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGmb4YXtflo I wrote the music and my friend Cheryl Elizabeth Waddell wrote the lyrics. It is the 8th track on my CD, “Angels Are Out With You Today.” In the blog I explained why I created that song. I wrote it in memory of my friends’ loved ones who died in an act of domestic violence and to everyone out there who has lost a child or family member. I have been touched by the reactions I have received from parents and families who have listened to the song and found comfort through both the music and the lyrics.
Since I cannot find the words to express my grief I realized the best way I can offer support and love is through the gift of music. I plan to give my CD, “Angels Are Out With You Today”, to each family who lost a loved one at Sandy Hook. I will be sending these out to the families during early January.
Together with my family and friends I pray that this music will offer some relief to these families during this difficult time. As stated in the lyrics, angels are out with us today.
