March 17, 2015—Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Everyone is a little bit Irish when it comes to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Parades are everywhere and parties abound. Many folks cook up the traditional corned beef and cabbage boiled dinner, complete with Irish Soda Bread. It is a welcome sight to see people wearing green after a long, cold white winter. You can even tell St. Patrick’s Day is upon us when you step into a preschool and see the children all decked out in green, whether it’s green socks, pants, shirts or hair bows.
Another fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to make a Leprechaun Hat with your kids at home! All you need is stiff green poster board, black and yellow construction paper, green yarn, a tape measure, scissors, a ruler, a paper hole punch, a glue stick, and any items you have in your house that you would like to use to decorate your hat with, such as stickers, glitter, crayons, chalk, etc.
I have just started a new YouTube series called “Fun Kids’ Activities with Fern!” The first video demonstrates how to make a Leprechaun Hat with your kids. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjhvLXmtW0g
Get out the art supplies and have some fun with your children!
Once you have finished making your Leprechaun hats you can join me dancing The Irish Jig. Your kids will love pretending to be a Leprechaun to this lively Irish music.
Enjoy the video; have fun making your hats and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
